Adoption Q&A

Where are the Dogs?

Most of our dogs are currently in South Korea, taken care of by our partner organization, Welcome Dog Korea. The locations of dogs are indicated on their profiles.

Can I Meet the Dog before I Apply?

Most of our dogs are currently in South Korea. Usually, we arrange the flight after giving an approval for the adoption. This means that you may not be able to see the dogs in person for a while even after the adoption approval is granted.

There could be an exception, if the dog is being fostered in Canada. You can check their locations on the dog’s profile. If you are willing to visit to see the dogs that are currently in Canada, please contact us.

Can I Apply for Adoption from Where I Am?

We accept applications from the Greater Toronto Area.

We want you to be able to welcome your adopted dog at the Toronto Peason Airport on their arrival day.

If you are not in GTA and want to adopt our dog, please contact us: welcomedogtoronto@gmail.com

How much is the Extra Fee?

On the adoption day at the airport, the adopter will pay the inspection fee and porter fee.

The inspection fee will cost around $40 CAD.

The porter fee depends. It will cost approximately $20 CAD paid by cash.

So there will be around $60 extra cost.

How long does it take to Process my Application?

After reviewing your application, we will decide whether to proceed with the adoption process or not. If we choose to proceed with your application, we will contact you to set up a time for a phone interview within 7 to 10 days from the day of your submission.

The whole process including phone interview and home check should take about 1 to 3 weeks. But this does NOT mean you can meet your adopted dog right away. The date of adoption will vary for each dogs, depending on where they are.

What kind of Medical Cares do Dogs get Before Adopted?

We provide our dogs with the treatments below:

  • Spay or Neuter Surgery

  • All Vaccines Necessary: Rabies, DHLPP, Corona, Kennel Cough, Influenza

  • Tests: Heartworm test, Giardia Test, Benesia Test (when clear symptoms are present)

  • Endo/Ecto Parasite Prevention: Tick, Flea, intestinal worms, and heart worms.

  • Microchip

  • Health Exam

Is the Dog Microchipped?

We recently changed our policy to make sure all dogs flying out through us are microchipped.

This is to help in case the dog is lost at the beginning of the adjustment period.

Can I Adopt a Puppy?

Puppies that came to us can be between a few weeks to a few months old.

They need booster shots and to be spayed and neutered before the adoption and more importantly, they need to be at least 8 months old to enter Canada.

What does 'Pending' mean on the dog's profile?

It means the dog is between 'Adoption Granted' and 'Adoption Complete.’

What happens if I CANNOT make it to the airport in time?

In such cases, the dog(s) will be handed over to an animal reception center at the airport until the adopter arrives.

The expense for holding the dog(s) for the time being will be on the adopter.
